About Vučko
The XIV Winter Olympic Games were held in Sarajevo in 1984.
Exactly 1,272 competitors from 49 countries participated in the Games in six sports in total.
This event, in many ways unique, is considered to be one of the most important historic
moments in Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was a part of the SFR of Yugoslavia.
The proposal for the mascot of the XIV Winter Olympic Games was made by Slovenian painter
Jože Trobec. The Vučko mascot, which he proposed was selected as the official mascot of the
XIV Winter Olympics among the many proposals made through the largest Yugoslav newspapers
and magazines. Vučko had a red scarf around his neck, a pair of red skis on his shoulder
and he was shouting: "Sarajevoooooooo." The XIV Winter Olympics were one of the most successfully organized Olympic Games ever.
